Size, shape, texture and function.

Something conservative in size and basic in shape may offer you more versatility in the ways in which you use the toy...
ie outside, inside, "front" or "back."

Softer textures may be a plus for a first timer as well as multiple speeds...
If you have a a choice of vibration speeds, then you can figure out what level suits you best.
